How this tool works
Each month the balance earns one twelfth of the annual rate, then your contribution is added. Repeating this for the whole period gives the final balance.
“Interest earned” is the difference between the final balance and everything you put in, so you can see how much of the growth came from compounding.
Frequently asked questions
- How is interest compounded?
- Monthly. Interest is added to the balance each month before your next contribution, so later interest is earned on earlier interest.
- Is tax on interest included?
- No. Withholding tax on interest, SACCO dividends and account fees are not modelled. Treat the result as a gross estimate.
- Can I model a SACCO or money market fund?
- Yes — enter the advertised annual rate. Remember that fund returns vary, so run a few scenarios rather than relying on one figure.
